Dictionnaires Le Robert () is a French publisher of dictionaries founded by Paul Robert. Its Petit Robert is often considered one of the authoritative single-volume dictionary of the French language. The founding members of the editorial board were the lexicographers, Alain Rey and Josette Rey-Debove. Editis is a French corporate group, group of publishing companies, subsidiary of French group Vivendi. It is the second-largest Media of France, French publishing group, after Hachette Livre. History Editis was created in January 2004 by the regrouping of approximately 60% of the publishing assets of Vivendi, the other part remaining with Lagardère Group. Editis was, for 4 years (until May 2008), part of Wendel (group), Wendel, a financial investment group which had acquired it from Investima10 (a financial ''ad hoc'' structure holding Vivendi Universal Publishing assets after Lagardère's purchase in 2003). Wendel purchased this group of publishers for about €400 million plus debt, and sold it to Planeta for about €960 million, realizing a profit. English Language
English is a West Germanic language of the Indo-European language family, with its earliest forms spoken by the inhabitants of early medieval England. Van Dale
''Van Dale's Great Dictionary of the Dutch Language'' ( nl, Van Dale Groot woordenboek van de Nederlandse taal ), called ' for short, is the leading dictionary of the Dutch language. The latest edition was published in April 2022. History Van Dale's dictionary was first published after the death of Johan Hendrik van Dale, who had started work on his ''New Dictionary of the Dutch Language'' ( ) in 1867. This was built upon the original same-named 1864 dictionary of I.M. Calisch and N.S. Calisch. Van Dale did not see the new work published in his lifetime, as he died in 1872. It was finished by his student Jan Manhave. Today it is published by the private company Van Dale Lexicografie. A bilingual dictionary or translation dictionary is a specialized dictionary used to translate words or phrases from one language to another. Bilingual dictionaries can be ''unidirectional'', meaning that they list the meanings of words of one language in another, or can be ''bidirectional'', allowing translation to and from both languages. Bidirectional bilingual dictionaries usually consist of two sections, each listing words and phrases of one language alphabetically along with their translation. Josette Rey-Debove
Josette Rey-Debove (November 16, 1929 – February 22, 2005), was a French lexicographer and semiologist. She was the first female lexicographer in France, and held many prominent posts in this field, where she used her influence to promote feminist changes to French language usage. Her husband, Alain Rey, was also her colleague. Early life and education Josette Rey-Debove was born November 16, 1929 in Calais (Pas-de-Calais), France. She was a graduate of the University of Sorbonne, with a doctorate of linguistics. Career She began her career in 1952 as a lecturer of French at the Edgar-Quinet College in Paris. The following year, she became an editor of language dictionaries at the Société du Nouveau Littré (later Dictionnaires Le Robert), one of the most prominent publishers of dictionaries in the French language.
